WebbIE
The WebbIE software programs are programs that make it easier for blind and visually-impaired people, especially using screen readers, to browse the web, get the latest news, listen to podcasts and radio stations and other common tasks. They work with any screen reader, including JAWS, WindowEyes, Thunder, NVDA and Narrator. They have been provided completely free since 2001 by Dr. Alasdair King.
There are many programs: some have their own installers, and the rest come in one big package. (Before 2013 they all came in one big package.)
WebbIE 4 Web Browser
WebbIE lets you browse web pages, search the web, fill in forms, do ecommerce, and use online email, all in a highly-usable text-only display that works with any screenreader. Read More about WebbIE 4. Download WebbIE 4 installer now.
PDF Reader 3
This simple application opens PDF files as plain text. This makes it easy to read them with a screenreader. You can also save files as text documents so you can read them easily later. Read More about PDF Reader. Download PDF Reader installer now.
BBC iPlayer Radio 8
This application lets you play BBC Radio programmes from the last seven days that they make available through the iPlayer website. BBC Live Radio 2
This simple application lets you listen to one of dozens of live BBC radio stations online with a couple of key presses. It's easy to use with any screenreader - much simpler than the BBC site. WebbIE Accessible Program Pack
This contains RSS News Reader, Podcatcher, Clock, Calendar, and BBC iPlayer TV. These applications are all bundled together in one big installer, just like the whole of WebbIE used to be. RSS News Reader makes it easy to read the latest news from your favourite sites. Podcatcher lets you listen to podcasts from around the world. Clock and Calendar and big, visible, simple speaking time and reminder tools. BBC iPlayer TV lets you start TV programs from the BBC site easily. Download WebbIE Accessible Program Pack now
A Beta version of RSS News Reader is now available. Please do try it out and tell me if it works! Alasdair, 11 February 2013.
WebbIE on a USB Stick
Some people like to run WebbIE off a USB stick. This works well with the older WebbIE 3 programs. Any machine with Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 should run the programs just fine. You do not have to be an administrator or install any software: normally you can just walk up to a machine and plug in the USB stick. You can also download the zip file, unzip it - you MUST unzip it! - and run the programs straight away. Your settings are saved to the program folder. Download WebbIE on a USB stick now.
Old WebbIE 3
You can still download and install the old WebbIE 3, which came with every WebbIE program above in one big package. Download the old WebbIE 3 installer now.
